Galleria Vittorio Emanuele

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele was designed in 1861 and built 1865 to 1877 - only 12 years! Compare that to the 500+ years the Duomo took. But then again, the two are far from similar structures.

It's a masonry building with iron & glass roof. Two intersecting streets make an arch with domed octagon at center.

Glass-roofed arcade with shops and cafes - an early formal covered street. And therein lies the most awesome part!

As a tourist, you should take the time to make this a pit stop. For at least 10 to 15 minutes, sit and people watch. It's the most amazing place as you will get a very wild cross-section of the world.

Food in Italy is about tradition, a sense of togetherness, pure enjoyment and a topic of conversation, celebrated in the company of family or friends, at home or in a good restaurant.

Make sure your visit includes a marketplace, particularly in the early morning. There may be several near your hotel. Watch the buying and selling and note the passion given to food.

Varese is home to the International airport of Milan, Malpensa. If you are staying near the airport, you are near the countryside and not far from Lake Como, Lago Maggiore and Stresa; all places you shouldn't miss

Right next to the Duomo is the famous Galleria. The interior as it is just as wonderful as the exterior. Take the time to sit on a bench inside and just watch the people walk by.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele
Thousands of pigeons make this area their home as well. We are reminded me of some of the plazas I in South America. The Galleria in Dallas, Texas was patterned after this one. No one can come close to the majesty of the original.
Varese train stop
In Lombardy is the little province of Varese. It's very beautiful and is close to the northern Italy lake area. This was taken from an overpass and shows a train stop for Varese.

This is a fruit and vegetable vendor in the marketplace in Varese. As you can see from the background, it's close to the train station. Note the colors in the fruits.
