| Even before they became popular, World Wide Mart had it's own bulletin board system (BBS) in Mansfield, Texas. Known as the Walnut Creek BBS, WWM ran on what was then known as FidoNET, a collection of hundreds of computers across the globe set up mainly to share e-mail. The year was 1988.
FidoNET was fully integrated with what was then known as the Internet. It was common to send and receive e-mail from students at Universities that had the Internet. But because of the limitations of the software, e-mail was transferred once a day, between 2 and 4 AM. At this time the BBS went into maintenance mode and no one could log in. With speeds at 2400 baud, it was amazing to see everything work. |
| Once the World Wide Web debuted, WWM quickly became one of the first sites with the Choice Coffee Company in 1993. Searching for a reliable Network Operations Center, WWM found Clever Computers in Atlanta, Georgia, and setup a simple site. At the same time, in Fort Collins, Colorado, a young Matt Wright was learning Perl in High School and developed FormMail, a form to e-mail script which later revolutionized the web. Clever Computers used Matt's Scripts and upon visiting Matt's development page at his High School, World Wide Mart saw his request for commercial web space to further script development and later make a profit by advertisements or other means, something he could not do on the school's servers. We immediately offered Matt space and he's been with us ever since. A large part of our development and success is owed to Matt Wright. Believing the the web had the potential to be a virtual marketplace, Matt, WWM with Choice Coffee developed one of the early workable online shopping carts.
As God blessed, many Choice customers wanted to know how to have a site like that for their own. So opening the door to web hosting was a natural thing. Customers came by the hundreds, impressed with the company, Matt Wright, our friendly support and service, and the reliability of our network.
Since 1998, we moved to Naples, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico. WWM now houses its servers in two data centers, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Baltimore, Maryland. We continue to grow simply by listening to our customers, listening to the industry and most of all, listening to God. We give Him the glory for what we are, what we've done and where we're going. |
